A convective storm system usually composed of a cluster of ordinary convective cells at various stages of their life cycle. New cells within the convective system are generated primarily by either low-level convergence along a preexisting boundary, or by lifting at the leading edge of the system-scale cold pool that was produced by the previous cells. A multicell storm may have a lifetime of several hours, and may also have supercells incorporated as a part of the system as well. See also cell, ordinary cell, supercell, thunderstorm.

(Term used in remote sensing. ) A system for simultaneously observing the same target with several filtered bands. Usually applied to imaging radiometers that use dispersant optics to separate wavelength bands for viewing by several filtered detectors. Also applied to cameras.

A dense, highly viscous flowing mass of predominantly fine-grained earthy material, with water content approximately 20% by weight (or approximately 40% by volume). Their high density and viscosity allow mudflows to travel at speeds of more than 10 m s<sup>−1</sup> in mountain canyons, and to carry very large boulders on low gradients.

An incoherent Doppler technique for eliminating stationary targets from radar displays. For each transmitted pulse, the frequency or phase of the returned signal is compared with that of the transmitted signal, and signals are rejected for which there is no change in frequency or phase. MTI was an early technique for detecting airplanes or other moving targets in the presence of clutter. It is not used in modern weather radars.
